🗑️ Landfill Services & Disposal Guidelines
We accept all solid waste (residential, commercial, industrial, construction and demolition wastes) generated in Buena Vista County. Large demolition projects may require special handling. No appointment is needed for regular waste disposal.
💵 Disposal Fees
Residential/Commercial/Industrial waste -$62 per ton/$20 minimum charge
Construction Waste and Bulky Waste– $75 per ton/$20 minimum charge
Feed/Grain/Dust/Ash Waste-$100 per ton/$20 minimum Charge
⚠️ Large items may incur additional fees without prior notice. All fees are subject to change.
🚫 Items Banned from Landfill (Iowa Code) ❌ Do not place in garbage or recycling bins
• Lead Acid Batteries/Rechargeable Batteries: Accepted for recycling at no charge• Appliances: Recycled for $12 each
• Tires: Recycled by size/type or bulk weight (4+ tires)
• Free Liquids: Contact us—may be accepted via RCC if hazardous
• Yard Waste: Accepted in compost area; businesses charged $30/ton

• Oil Filters & Motor Oil: Free recycling for residents

• Recyclable with applicable fees-we accept these during regular business hours.
♻️ Recycling at the Transfer Station
We accept most recyclables. Please keep them separate from other waste when unloading:
• Cardboard, paper, tin cans, aluminum, metals, glass containers
• Clean lumber and pallets (especially from construction loads)
📦 Load Preparation Requirements
- Ash/Burn barrel waste must be wet down prior to acceptance. ❌ Do not place in garbage or recycling bins
• Blown Insulation: Must be bagged or wetted
• Floor Sweepings: Must be bagged
• Lumber & Similar Waste: Cut to ≤6 ft unless separated for recycling
• Concrete: Take to Reding Excavating, Smith Concrete, or BV County Secondary Roads
• Special Waste: Asbestos & paint dust require pre-authorization and forms
• Large Items (e.g., hot tubs, boats): Cut to 4×2 ft sections; remove motors
• Semi Loads: Require pre-authorization for direct haul to Carroll (48 hrs notice)
🚛 Haulers must remove banned items (tires, appliances, metals, pallets) from loads.
⚖️ Legal Disposal Requirements
All waste must be handled through:
• BV County Recycle Center (Transfer Station)
• Carroll County Landfill
❗ Hauling waste to any other location violates Iowa Code—even if the Transfer Station declines it.
