🧪 What Is Household Hazardous Waste (HHW)?
Household Hazardous Waste includes everyday products that contain chemicals harmful to people, pets, and the environment if not disposed of properly. These items can cause fires, injuries, or contaminate groundwater.
🚫 Common HHW Categories
• Household Cleaners: Oven cleaners, drain openers, disinfectants, rug and upholstery sprays.
• Home Improvement: Oil-based and lead paints, stains, thinners, strippers, adhesives, caulk.
• Pesticides: Insecticides, repellents, weed killers, rodent poisons, mothballs.
• Automotive: Gasoline, brake fluid, solvents, waxes, windshield wiper fluid.
• Other: Pool chemicals, photo processing chemicals, artist paints (e.g., cadmium yellow, cobalt blue).
📢 Look for signal words on labels like Caution, Danger, Warning, or Keep Out of Reach of Children—these indicate hazardous materials.

⚠️ Do not drop off items without an appointment—a certified operator must be present.
🎨 Latex Paint Is Not Hazardous
Water-based latex paint can go in the trash once it’s dry. Dry it out by:
• Lining a box with newspaper and layering paint
• Mixing in kitty litter or wood chips
• Using store-bought paint hardener
• Removing lids and letting it air dry
🗑️ Once dry, place it with your trash with lids off so haulers can verify it’s safe
